Join Us for an Upcoming Event
Chiefs of Staff are increasingly asked to play a pivotal role in government relations and strategic partnerships. This functional area is especially critical now, as institutions seek to strengthen and diversify their partnerships in response to the current economic downturn. Strategic action here allows institutions to pivot quickly to work with growth industries while mitigating the impact of struggling industries, compete for often limited state government funding, and take full advantage of federal stimulus opportunities.
Whether as a functional leader for government relations and strategic partnerships or as an adviser to their President, the Chief of Staff must be prepared to help guide their institution’s partnerships work. Join us to prepare yourself for a leadership role in positioning your institution to take advantage of the partnership opportunities of the current moment.
Session
In this session, we will discuss how the Chief of Staff undertakes the government relations and strategic partnerships role. Participants will first hear the practitioner perspective through an EAB interview with Ryan DeBoef, Chief of Staff and Assistant to the President for Government Relations at Missouri State University and a functional leader for government relations at his institution. Then EAB experts will share an institution-wide partnerships framework, including information on government, private industry, and K-12 and other education institutions, with insights from EAB’s mobilizing for economic recovery research. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to work with their peers in breakout rooms to apply the framework to their institutions.
Participants will be able to:
- Learn how a Chief of Staff incorporates government relations into their strategic deputy role
- Learn from EAB’s experts about a framework for what an effective partnerships strategy entails
- Apply the framework by honing their institution’s pitch to government and strategic partners for support
This session is limited to Chiefs of Staff and other Presidential Strategic Deputies. Registration is limited to one attendee per institution.
- Thursday, February 25 | 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time
