Melanie Ho serves as Executive Director of Research and Strategy at EAB. During her ten years at EAB, she has overseen strategic research studies to support 1300+ colleges and universities across a wide range of issues, including online and professional education, marketing and recruiting, student success and career outcomes, diversity and inclusion, academic leadership development, business affairs, and advancement.
Currently, Dr. Ho is focused on supporting college and university presidents and their cabinets with developing differentiated future strategies, especially in light of changing student and industry needs, as well as an increasingly challenging fiscal and competitive landscape. Her accomplishments at EAB have also included overseeing budget, talent management/development, and operations for 100+ staff, as well as spearheading the launch of multiple new products and services—most notably, EAB’s strategic research and support for presidents, as well as market research for launching and revitalizing online and professional programs.
Dr. Ho also currently serves as a member of the Board of Visitors for the UCLA English Department, where she received her Ph.D. and taught introductory literature courses prior to joining EAB. In 2007, she earned the UCLA Academic Senate’s Distinguished Teaching Award for her innovative instructional design, including the uses of technology and problem-based learning. While at UCLA, she served on several faculty committees, including the Executive Committees of the College of Letters and Science and the English Department, and chaired the board of directors of ASUCLA, the $75-million, self-supporting organization that operates the bookstores, restaurants, and trademarks and licensing at UCLA.
Dr. Ho has published articles in The Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed. Her doctoral dissertation examined how the categorization of American fiction into “highbrow” vs. “middlebrow” has been shaped by trends in higher education organization and academic culture.
