About the Webconference

Speakers: Gus Passov, Chris Miller

The nationwide transition to distance learning placed undue burden on the parents of all students. But, no group of parents experienced a bumpier transition to distance learning than the parents of students with disabilities. This session outlines the major pain points distance learning has created for the parents of students with disabilities and provides strategies and tools districts can use going forward to ensure distance learning works for the families it has most impacted.

  • How can we personalize and streamline communications to minimize parent stress?
  • What basic training can we provide for parents to help them facilitate instruction and related service provision at home?
  • How can we best translate IEPs to home environments?
  • What can we do to prepare for the influx of compensatory education requests?
  • What new technology investments should we be considering? Which are less practical?
  • What COVID-19 inspired innovations should we embed in special education programs going forward?

Superintendents, assistant superintendents, directors of special education, and principals will find this session valuable.
