Crowdsource Content for Experiential Major Maps

Many innovative institutions have created experiential major maps, comprehensive plans that align course requirements with co-curricular and experiential learning opportunities. These maps help students explore majors, reflect on the career-relevant skills they are gaining, get hands-on experience in preparation for jobs and graduate programs, and see career paths available to each major. With increasing interest in the practice, EAB has created the Experiential Major Map Strategy Collaborative to help our partners:

  • Accelerate creation of experiential major maps
  • Troubleshoot common issues with EAB experts and like-minded peers
  • Learn from institutions that have already created and deployed experiential major maps
  • Create a network of peers to learn from and consult with in real-time

To create experiential major maps that help students identify experiential learning activities specific to their majors, implementation leaders need to collect information about applied learning opportunities and high-impact practices from academic units and other campus offices. EAB has uncovered best practices in coordinating with these offices across campus. In this webconference, we review the first steps to building experiential major maps and the checklist of tasks your steering committees should be covering.

We discuss the second phase of implementation and share best practices in crowdsourcing content from across campus. We also introduce experiential major map cover pages and share insights for creating a successful cover page. Finally, we moderate a Q&A session with Emily Rollins from St. Ambrose University and Felicity Morgan and Monica Scott from University of Toronto, Mississauga. These university experts provide great insights on how they worked together with colleagues to choose the best experiences to include in each experiential major map.
