Summary As schools explore the importance of fostering strong social-emotional development in students, mentorship programs have become an important strategy. This report explores the development of middle and high school mentorship programs for the purpose of social-emotional and career development. The report also program structures and assessment strategies. Key observations from our research 1. Profiled mentorship programs serve a wide variety of grade levels. 2. Profiled mentorship programs rely on mentors who vary from students to community volunteers, depending on the goals of the mentorship program. 3. At four of five profiled schools and districts, the primary goal of mentorship programs is to develop social-emotional skills in students. 4. All profiled schools and districts rely on school personnel (e.g., teachers, counselors) to facilitate successful mentorship programs. Download the Report
