One of the key reasons for criticism or debates around the value of higher education is a growing perception that university is no longer the best path to good jobs. Both employers and the students themselves believe that they are unprepared for the demands of the workplace and that universities should do more to prepare students.

Guest speaker Alison Sharp, Head of Work Experience and Student Opportunity at the University of Birmingham, will discuss their career development reverse mentoring programme with local companies.

This session will explore four key tactics:

  • Integrate employability into the curriculum via co-creation and experiential learning
  • Embed co-curricular experiences across the student journey
  • Signal commitment to outcomes with support guarantees
  • Set expectations for university-to-career transitions
