Preparing Students for an AI-Transformed Knowledge Economy
Partner Event
AI is rapidly transforming the knowledge economy, with especially sharp implications for early-career roles. As automation expands, traditional entry-level positions are disappearing or being redefined, while employers raise expectations for job-ready graduates. At the same time, institutions are enrolling a more academically and socioemotionally diverse student population, intensifying concerns about employability, value for money, and long-term outcomes.
This event focuses on how these shifts are colliding and what they mean for institutional strategy across Europe and the U.K. Using labour market, economic, and employer data, we will examine where current approaches to student preparation are misaligned with market realities and where leaders have room to act.
Presenters will cover:
- Economic and labour market trends reshaping the knowledge sector and graduate employment pathways
- Patterns of job creation and job loss, with emphasis on entry- and mid-level roles most affected by AI
- How employer expectations for ‘day-one readiness’ are changing in an AI-enabled workplace
- Credential and programme design approaches that embed AI-era human skills alongside technical capabilities
- New indicators of job readiness that combine experiences, credentials, and applied skills
- Strategic questions leaders should ask to better align student needs, employer demand, and institutional value propositions
Participants will leave with a clearer framework for evaluating whether their current offerings are preparing students for an AI-transformed labour market and where targeted change is most urgent.
