On October 1–2, EAB brought provosts and academic leaders together at OpenAI in New York for a two-day Provost Experience Lab focused on how artificial intelligence is reshaping teaching and learning, academic leadership, and the future of work.

Participants experienced AI-enabled classroom activities, heard how academic leaders are supporting faculty engagement, and considered what changing workplace expectations mean for graduates. Across these conversations, a central question emerged: How can institutions strengthen learning while ensuring students develop the knowledge, judgment, and interpersonal skills they need to succeed in world where AI is pervasive?

For provosts who couldn’t attend in person and team members engaged with these questions, this virtual briefing will unpack the most compelling lessons and their implications for your campus. Drawing on examples and frameworks shared at the Lab, EAB researchers will discuss how to:

  • Strengthen teaching and assessment through AI-enabled discussions, simulations, and activities that make student thinking visible.
  • Support faculty with clear guidance and professional development that protect foundational learning while enabling purposeful experimentation.
  • Equip graduates for changing work by building their ability to verify AI-generated output, exercise judgment, and solve ambiguous problems.
  • Expand academic leadership capacity through AI tools that support research, meeting preparation, and recurring workflows.
  • Translate these opportunities into campus priorities by identifying barriers and concrete next steps for the academic year.

The session will connect classroom examples with the broader leadership decisions facing provosts and other academic leaders, helping you assess which approaches fit your institution. We’ll also highlight EAB resources and support available to help academic leaders engage faculty, prioritize curriculum changes, and advance their institution’s AI strategy.
