EAB Enhances Its Leading Data Management Platform with AI

Edify’s new AI features accelerate the work of institutional researchers and empower staff who have limited technical expertise to access and analyze critical data

May 27, 2024

DENVER, Colo. – May 28, 2024 – EAB announced today at the AIR Forum annual conference that the company has enhanced Edify, the leading data management platform for higher education, with new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The new AI features will enable campus staff to use natural-language queries to find and generate reports on all facets of university operations.

Colleges and universities use Edify to collect and organize data from disparate campus departments and IT systems into a unified data repository. Edify then provides institutional researchers and campus leaders with more efficient access to the data they need to make better decisions.

“Edify is already higher education’s most comprehensive and easy-to-use data and analytics solution,” said President of EAB Technology, Scott Schirmeier. “Edify’s new AI tools will turbocharge the productivity of Institutional Research or Institutional Effectiveness offices and help decision makers gain better insight into all areas of university operations without overburdening IT staff with data requests.”

The new AI tools include the following:

1. Query Assist: Instantly converts plain-English queries into executable SQL code (a standard programming language used for database creation and manipulation) to retrieve data and create reports. For example, a head of institutional research might ask Query Assist to generate a report showing the percentage of all students with worse than a “C” average across all Calculus 101 classes currently offered at the university. The system will instantly generate the SQL command the user can review to create that report.

2. Data Search Assist: Users of any technical ability can ask questions about the content, location, structure, and meaning of data stored within Edify. For example, a user might use the Data Search Assist to ask, “How is ‘yield’ defined in the Strategic Enrollment dashboard?” or “Which report will give me data and information on all students who have sent in deposits?

3. Query Explainer: Converts lengthy SQL queries into plain-language explanations of the code’s purpose and logic so users can easily determine whether a specific SQL query or command will return the desired data.

“I truly believe that AI is what will help us increase adoption and democratize access to not just Edify, but data in general,” added El Camino College Chief Technology Officer, Loïc Audusseau.
