For most of the higher education sector, digital transformation in the pre-pandemic era was a luxury advocated mainly by CIOs and a few progressive vice chancellors and rectors. With the advent of the so-called ‘Great Lockdown’ earlier in 2020, the virtual delivery of education and remote working emerged as a necessity for business continuity. Since then, attitudes to digitalisation have shifted. While the global pandemic presents massive opportunities for the sector to better integrate digital tools across academic and operational terrains, institutions risk falling prey to the trap of digital delusion, adopting technology merely for the sake of technology.
