Wednesday, Dec 11, 2024
On most campuses, transformative student success work involves change: It often includes implementing new tools like Starfish or Navigate, redesigning advising or support processes, introducing new initiatives, or all of the above. On most campuses, transformative student success work involves change: It often includes implementing new tools like Starfish or Navigate, redesigning advising or support processes, introducing new initiatives, or all of the above. Effective change management is essential for this important work to succeed, but many institutions struggle to overcome siloed structures and entrenched cultural resistance to change. But while change is really hard, it is possible!

Join Syracuse University retentioneers Kal Srinivas, Ph. D. (Director for Student Retention and Success) and Hopeton Smalling, Ed. S. (Orange SUccess Functional Business Analyst) to learn how they managed major change in student success processes, technology, and culture at Syracuse through the OrangeSUccess initiative. OrangeSUccess was launched with the goal to “Nourish the whole student to support academic, social, and emotional well-being”, in alignment with the 2015 Academic Strategic Plan. Impacted by this initiative, in 2020 Syracuse University achieved its highest four-year graduation rate since 1989. Kal and Hopeton will share insights on their research-based change management process and dive deeper into how they achieved success by relentlessly communicating the work, sharing data and results, and investing time in developing the relationships across campus with the people at all levels doing the important work of supporting and educating students.

Following the presentation, attendees will be invited to submit questions for a brief Q&A.
