Student success is an equity issue and ensuring that students from all backgrounds succeed at university often requires proactive and intentional support of particular student populations, such as international students.

Universities support the diverse needs of students from different racial, ethnic, and international backgrounds in various ways. This session does not aim to replace existing successful initiatives but offers examples of four high-impact tactics based on best-practice research:

  • Activate support mechanisms within existing networks
  • Foster empathy in service pathways
  • Reduce barriers for staff engagement and mentorship
  • Boost social capital by uncovering unwritten rules
