Safeguarding Student Well-Being in an Era of Policy Uncertainty
Partner Event
Federal directives and budget proposals are reshaping the safety net that many students rely on—reductions in federal aid, constraints on DEI and inclusion initiatives, and new compliance pressures are landing hardest on those already vulnerable. At the same time, demand for mental health, financial, and basic needs support continues to rise.
This session will explore how federal policy decisions are shaping the student experience and retention outcomes. Participants will take away strategies on “no-regrets” investments that safeguard student success and examine approaches to building institutional resilience in the face of shifting federal and state policy.
Student affairs leaders will leave with practical, peer-tested approaches to:
- Anticipate where policy stress is most likely to disrupt student retention
- Identify “no-regrets” supports that remain compliant yet impactful
- Strengthen cross-campus coordination so well-being is not siloed, and
- Align cabinet-level messaging on student success and safety
This session is best suited for Vice Presidents for Student Affairs, Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents, and Senior Student Affairs Officers who are leading campus-wide strategies to safeguard student well-being and retention.
