Cost Cutting Without Breaking the Institution
Partner Event
For institutions facing significant budget pressures, deciding where to reduce spending is only part of the challenge. Leaders must also determine how decisions will be made, in what order changes will occur, and how the institution will communicate a clear and credible path forward.
This Community of Practice brings together presidents, chief financial officers, and chiefs of staff from institutions preparing for or actively implementing budget reductions. As institutions prepare for FY28 budget planning, the conversation will focus on the leadership decisions surrounding reductions—not on prescribing what institutions should cut.
Through a facilitated peer discussion, participants will compare how their institutions are approaching the sequence and pace of decisions, navigating governance structures, and maintaining trust and morale during a period of uncertainty. The group will also consider how leaders can develop a cohesive narrative for the board and campus community—one that clearly communicates the institution’s financial realities, decision-making process, and path forward.
This conversation will create space for leaders to share experiences, ask candid questions, and pressure-test their approaches with peers navigating similar circumstances.
