Where Course Sharing Fits in Academic Strategy

Course sharing has moved from the margins to an increasingly important strategic question for provosts. As institutions look for new ways to sustain access to low-enrollment courses, expand academic offerings without adding faculty, and manage instructional costs, course-sharing models are attracting growing attention. At the same time, leaders must weigh important questions about academic quality, faculty ownership, student experience, institutional fit, and the role external partners should play in delivering the curriculum.

In this session, David Attis will convene provosts for a candid discussion of the opportunities, tradeoffs, and practical considerations associated with course sharing. He will be joined by Kevin Harrington, CEO of Rize Education, who will describe Rize’s approach, its course-sharing ecosystem, and how the model works in practice. Dr. Andrea Milner, Vice President & Dean of Academic Affairs at Adrian College, will also join the panel as an objective voice, ready to answer real, practical questions about both the long-term and day-to-day challenges and benefits of implementing a course-sharing program.

Rather than advocating for a single approach, the conversation will give participants an opportunity to examine course sharing from multiple angles, hear how peers are thinking about the model, and ask direct questions about where it can—and cannot—support institutional priorities.
