About the Webconference

Unlike their first-time, full-time counterparts, adult learners maintain a precarious balance of professional and family responsibilities in addition to working toward their degree. Adults see college as an opportunity to build skills to seek better jobs to support their families, but often find college campuses ill-suited to support their goals. As the population of community college students with adult responsibilities grows, advisors and faculty must consider ways to put their post-traditional students on the most effective and efficient path to success by answering:

  • Which best practices for traditional students should be adapted to post-traditional learners?
  • What is the best way to align coursework with adult learner career development goals?
  • How do we prepare students for their new profession when they spend so little time on campus?
