The alignment of mission, strategy, and org structure is paramount for operating an independent school in today's complex world. Most independent schools are clear about their mission; they also make strategic choices to be successful in fulfilling their school's purpose; but few schools really focus on organizational structure--the talent and structures needed to deliver on their strategic choices.

As a result of not assessing the alignment of mission, strategy, and organizational structure, schools may see consequences of mission creep and/or ineffective organizational design, both of which can hinder the success of independent schools. How can Heads of School work to create schools that are aligned in all three of these areas?

These working sessions are designed for Heads of School to learn an easily applicable method for how to check the alignment of their school's mission, strategy, and organizational design. Heads of School will also have the opportunity to share their strategic alignment challenges with their peers and pressure test solutions. After the sessions, Heads of School will receive a personalized success plan based on their score on the Strategic Alignment Assessment diagnostic matrix, which will outline how EAB can help solve their most pressing problems.

Session Objectives:

  • Describe the purpose of strategic alignment and why it is crucial for independent school success
  • Assess how your current strategic choices either support or do not support the fulfillment of your school's mission
  • Assess how your school's organizational structure either supports or does not support your strategic goals
  • Utilize a diagnostic matrix to determine your school's state of alignment and recommended next steps
