Please join EAB’s Senior Director Michael Fischer and Executive Vice President – Chief Financial Officer at Rutgers, Michael Gower, for an intimate convening of chief business officers from leading research institutions to engage on the pressing issues facing the higher education sector.

This session will provide a forum to explore innovative strategies that advance shared goals and feature rich discussion with an exclusive set of peers. We’ll explore topics like:

  • Responding to federal policy changes
  • Shoring up financial and operational effectiveness
  • Driving meaningful change on campus

Agenda

Rightsizing the Research University Amidst Industry Transformation

Rising costs and shifting political priorities have placed unprecedented pressure on research universities to change. Increasing institutional subsidies of the research enterprise are no longer sustainable, and universities cannot risk undermining their instructional and educational mission through further reallocation. Therefore, as the traditional mechanisms of research funding and support become less reliable, university leaders must think boldly about prioritizing research endeavors and leveraging limited support staff and technology in innovative ways.

In this two-day experience, CBOs and other financial and operational leaders from across leading global research universities will have dedicated time to unpack and brainstorm topics related to the financial future of the research enterprise, including:

  • The best opportunities to supplement research funding with new partnerships and industry collaborations, as well as broader alternative revenue strategy
  • Activities to stop, monitor, pivot, or proceed with research based on funding availability and success
  • Deploying technology to automate or streamline activities limited by the reduction in staff through reduced F&A support and other labor constraints

There will also be facilitated conversations on athletics planning as well as other topics that arise between now and autumn.
