Finding skilled tradespeople to fill roles is a struggle for Facilities leaders. Facilities employees are six years older than the average U.S. employee. As they retire, there is not a ready supply of new skilled tradespeople to backfill them—for every five tradespeople who retire, only one new person is entering the skilled trades. Because campuses can no longer rely on the current pool of skilled tradespeople, Facilities must build in-house talent development programs.
