EAB’s Flexible Work Collaborative for Hybrid and Remote Employees

EAB has created the Flexible Work Collaborative for Hybrid and Remote Employees to help our partners understand the principles behind an effective flexible work policy, and develop a policy they can implement on their campus.

When you can’t compete on salary, flexible and hybrid working arrangements must be a part of your employee value proposition. At the 2023 National Association of College and University Business Officers Conference, over two-thirds of CBOs polled in the session “Key Considerations in Developing an Effective Remote Work Policy” stated that their number one expectation for a remote work policy is to improve employee recruitment and retention.

However, implementing a viable, cross-campus flexible work strategy requires more than just a policy document. Senior leaders must align policy with broader, institution-wide strategic initiatives, reconfigure physical space and technology to meet new requirements, and maintain campus culture while supporting diverse working modalities. Indeed, in the same survey, three-quarters of respondents reported that the primary challenge they face with a hybrid workforce is maintaining engagement and culture.

EAB’s Flexible Work Collaborative for Hybrid and Remote Employees guides university leaders through an expert-led curriculum to help them quickly develop their goals, policy, infrastructure plan, and change management approach. In the collaborative you will have the opportunity to also learn from peers and get feedback from them on your specific plans.

"

We need to start making changes to our flexible work arrangements and office space today. There are some risks—and we should be strategic about the investments we make—but if we don’t rethink our plan now, we’re setting up both current and future hybrid work staff to fail.
