As the landscape of higher education continues to evolve, IT departments face the challenge of staying ahead of the curve. EAB’s new IT Leadership Institute is designed to prepare high-potential IT leaders for more senior roles. This seven-month online course will provide opportunities for high potential and new-to-role leaders to develop an understanding of evolving market challenges in higher ed, learn what boards and cabinets are focused on, and how IT activities interface with and impact others.

There are three fundamental types of knowledge that IT leaders in higher education need to succeed in more senior roles. First, they clearly need a technical understanding of the skills required in IT. Second, they require a strong grasp of leadership competencies, so they recognize and emulate traits like clear communication and accountability. Finally, they need higher education specific strategic and operational knowledge. Colleges and universities are a unique operating environment, with decentralized decision-making and shared governance processes that can be opaque for new leaders.

EAB’s new IT Leadership Institute will offer:

  • Subject-Matter Expertise with sessions addressing cross-cutting topics that all IT higher ed leaders need to know.
  • Professional Skills Development with sessions that provide leaders with higher ed specific strategic and operational knowledge that are essential to success.
  • Networking and Community Building opportunities in the form of structured virtual sessions that allow leaders to meet and network with each other and EAB.
