Early Insights from the IT Organization Chart Audit

Join EAB for a session sharing insights from the IT Organizational Chart Audit, based on our review of structures from over 40 institutions.

Higher education IT is at a pivotal moment. While presidents increasingly view digital transformation as an institutional priority and CIOs face expectations for for enabling artificial intelligence, they remain accountable for data, cybersecurity, and all digital infrastructure. Meanwhile, staffing gaps and budget reductions are forcing leaders to make choices about roles, reporting lines, and resources. Although 43% of presidents rank digital transformation as a top priority, only 16% of IT leaders say staffing meets institutional needs, and 42% of institutions expect IT budget cuts in 2025–26.

EAB experts will highlight patterns emerging from a sector-wide review of IT org structures. We will explore how central IT teams are organizing to support core and emerging capabilities. Participants will hear considerations for evolving IT from a utility function into a strategic, agile institutional partner.
