Impacts of Federal Policy on the Research Enterprise
Partner Event
The shifting federal policy landscape is presenting significant challenges to the research enterprise at universities and colleges. Daily headlines name new institutions at risk of losing millions (or billions) in grants, and reporting only scratches the surface on the chilling impact of executive orders on current and future research endeavors as access to talent, materials, and collaborators declines.
In this session, EAB Director Jon Barnhart and Associate Director Mac Sinclair will guide attendees through the most up-to-date federal policy actions as they relate to research, including:
- Trends in agency funding cuts—to individual awards and to agency staff
- The current state of the F&A rate cap
- The impact of Executive Actions on research talent, materials, and international collaborations
Expanding the discussion beyond the trends, they will also share how universities are reacting to the fast-changing and unpredictable environment. The session will highlight no-regrets actions every university should be taking right now to plan for research funding cuts and restrictions on talent. Finally, they will provide attendees with scenario guides to help them prepare for what might come next—a future with less research funding and much tighter scrutiny.
