APS’s founding members share the ambition of building the nation’s authoritative source of discipline level benchmarks of instructional costs, enrollment patterns, and faculty utilization—a quantitative MRI of program performance to complement mission and quality priorities in academic planning.
This Benchmarking Data Report on Cost provides the APS membership with department level data by cohort, allowing members to compare their own cost per attempted student credit hour to like institutions. The department costs are also broken into four categories to provide more granular view that separates instructional salaries from non-instructional staff, benefits and operating expenses.
We encourage you to leverage this report in your academic planning conversations to surface unexpected outliers that merit further examination and use this data in tandem with other data points, such as fill rates and faculty course load, which are potential instructional cost drivers.
