Cybersecurity Diagnostic for Education Leaders

Diagnose strengths and opportunities in your institution’s cybersecurity posture and organization

This diagnostic will help campus leaders identify key opportunities for improving cybersecurity protections in an environment of rapidly escalating attacks targeting education institutions.

Cybersecurity attacks among education institutions are on the rise. To help higher ed and K-12 leaders mitigate the risk of a potential attack, EAB created a diagnostic that reveals areas of opportunity to improve cybersecurity and implement protective measures.

This diagnostic is best completed by members of the information security team to provide an accurate picture of security posture. The diagnostic may also be completed by non-IT leaders across campus to assess their perceptions of cybersecurity risks and controls.

Rapidly Escalating Attacks Targeting Education Institutions

1,605: Average number of attacks per week on education/research organizations in 2021, according to Check Point Research

Rate your cybersecurity across four domains

The diagnostic allows institutions to rate themselves in 12 categories (e.g., security threat monitoring) across four overarching cybersecurity domains:

Technical security infrastructure

Does your institution employ effective technical controls and infrastructure to protect against common and next-gen threats?

Shared accountability and operations

Has your institution built a strong cybersecurity organization defined by shared risk and responsibility, robust staffing capabilities, and mature business processes?

Campus awareness and training

Does your institution cultivate a culture of cybersecurity awareness to promote cyber hygiene and prevent accidental breaches?

Incident response and recovery

The tiers in the diagnostic represent the relative maturity of an institution’s cyber capabilities in each area, from low (tier one) to high (tier four).
