How West Virginia University Transformed Program Review with APS and Edify
Hear from Dr. Louis Slimak, Associate Provost at West Virginia University, on how the institution transformed its program review process to better support student success and resource allocation.
Supporting difficult but necessary decisions with data
Many institutions are faced with tough choices about where to invest limited resources. At West Virginia University, program review became a critical lever for ensuring that program offerings aligned with both student demand and institutional priorities.
Through the integration of Academic Performance Solutions (APS) and Edify, WVU equipped its faculty-led review councils with transparent, standardized data, allowing them to make difficult program decisions with clarity, fairness, and confidence.
As a result, 18 programs were thoughtfully recommended for discontinuation through the shared governance process, ensuring that decisions were driven by data, aligned to mission, and backed by faculty expertise.
This data-supported approach didn’t just make hard conversations possible—it made them more collaborative, transparent, and focused on the institution’s long-term health and student success.
