Optimize K-12 Programming for Today’s Parents

Resources for creating comprehensive parent programming

This toolkit is designed to help school leaders assess the scope and effectiveness of their current parent programming, design new offerings where needed, and continually integrate parent feedback to provide programming that is comprehensive and relevant.

Today’s parents have changed, but independent schools have not, leading to key misalignments between schools and their customers. To effectively mitigate the risk of unproductive partnerships with parents and maximize the opportunity to create satisfied customers, heads of school must take a new approach to working with today’s parents.

EAB’s suite of services will empower heads and their teams to understand and meet today’s parents’ evolving needs and desires. See below for strategies that will allow schools to develop intentional, comprehensive programming for parents.

Understanding today’s parents

Generational trends and socio-economic forces have changed today’s parents’ values, needs, and demands. Heads must move beyond managing the few vocal, “challenging” parents to capitalize on the opportunity to create strong partnerships with their parent majority.

Watch these two recorded webinars, Meeting Today’s Parent Needs, to receive an in-depth customer profile of today’s parents’ characteristics, values, and expectations (Day 1), and learn tactics to establish and maintain lasting partnerships to support your enrollment and advancement efforts and strengthen your community (Day 2).

Assessing existing programming

To create comprehensive programming that meets today’s parents’ expectations, school leaders must assess the scope and effectiveness of their current parent offerings, using the Parent Programming Audit. In doing so, they can identify gaps and shortcomings, as well as untapped opportunities.

Develop and align programming

Once existing programming has been assessed and gaps have been identified, schools must use the Parent Education Curriculum Guide and Signature Parent Event Toolkit to develop new programming or align existing offerings to fill gaps. This will enable schools to meet new parent demands for education and engagement specific to their school communities.

Continuously seek parent feedback

To surface issues that may best be addressed through formal communication or proactive parent programming, schools need to regularly solicit and respond to parent feedback. Our Parent Feedback Survey Resource: A Guide to Surface and Address Today’s Parents’ Questions and Concerns is key to creating and maintaining engaged and satisfied customers.
