Benchmarking Data Report on Completion Rates

APS’s founding members share the ambition of building the nation’s authoritative source of discipline level benchmarks of instructional costs, enrollment patterns, and faculty utilization—a quantitative MRI of program performance to complement mission and quality priorities in academic planning.

This Benchmarking Data Report on Course Completion is the second in a series of reports that will provide the APS membership with insightful, actionable information around key performance indicators. The data included in this report includes completion rates and the % D, F, and W grades at the institution, division and department levels, as well as analysis by academic year and course type. To enable you to compare your own institution’s course completion rates to similar peers, we divided the benchmarking dataset into four cohorts, largely based on enrollment and research activity.

Course completion, though not the only measure of student outcomes, can serve as one of many inputs in conversations about academic resource allocation. We encourage you to leverage this report in your academic planning conversations and contact your dedicated consultant with any questions.

In case you missed it

Our second webconference in this series, "Improving Course Completion," will analyze variation in course completion rates and provide data-driven approaches to improving results. In addition, you will learn how your peers are handling similar issues, and glean best practices for better course management.
