Three of five profiled institutions use the Hay Group Job Evaluation to determine salaries for staff. 2. Profiled institutions offer limited performance-based pay; staff typically start at the first pay level for their position and progress to the next level each year provided they meet expectations for their role. 3. Offer staff without opportunities for promotion increased responsibilities, access to leadership institutes, professional development training workshops, and tuition reimbursements. 4. The interview process for internal and external candidates is nearly identical at all profiled institutions. 5. Most profiled institutions do not have the funds to offer early incentivized retirement for staff.
