    Supporting Students' Socio-Emotional Skills

    Use the tools in this resource if you responded neutral, disagree, or strongly disagree with any of the following statements:

     

    • Our school dedicates time in the school day for direct SEL instruction.
    • Our teachers embed SEL skill-building into the academic curriculum on a consistent basis.
    • Our school provides teachers with resources to embed SEL skill-building into academic curriculum (e.g., maps SEL activities to specific academic units and lessons; provides templates to incorporate SEL skill-building in academic discussions).
    • Our school tracks students’ socio-emotional and behavioral progress through documented teacher observations, report cards, and/or other behavioral metrics or data.

    Providing Behavioral Support

    • Teachers and/or staff at my school create a physical environment (e.g., classrooms, support rooms, hallways) to support student self-regulation (e.g., reduces visual clutter, limits distracting noise).
    • Teachers and/or staff at my school provide students with regular (i.e., daily) reinforcement for positive behavior.
    • Teachers and/or staff at my school communicate regular (i.e., weekly or monthly) positive and constructive feedback about students’ behavior to parents/guardians depending on age appropriateness.
    • Our school uses universal behavior screeners for early identification of students with behavior support needs.
    • Our school uses a multi-tiered system (e.g., MTSS) to provide students with support based on their level of needs.

    Coordinating Staff to Meet Students' Behavioral Needs

    • Our school uses a multi-tiered system (e.g., MTSS) to provide students with support based on their level of needs.
    • Teachers and/or staff at my school use behavior support/intervention plans to help support students with more significant/frequent behavioral challenges (i.e., tier 3 students).
    • Our school has a formalized multi-disciplinary team of staff members that help support and address student behavioral and socio-emotional needs.
    • Our school has a clear triage system that teachers and staff use to connect students with appropriate staff.
