Part III: Creating a data-driven advising culture

Rick Sluder, Vice Provost at MTSU, discusses how joining the Student Success Collaborative has enabled MTSU to be more proactive in its advising efforts through the use of data and predictive analytics.

Under statewide pressure to improve student outcomes, Middle Tennessee State University needed a way to move the dial on student success metrics with an under-staffed advising team.

The analytic capabilities of the Student Success Collaborative platformed helped advisors shift their focus from the students who made appointments to the students who needed their assistance the most. In this video, Rick Sluder, Vice Provost at MTSU, describes how SSC has made advising more data-driven and targeted. The platform helped MTSU increase fall-to-spring retention by 1.5 percentage points, which translates to an additional $1.5 million in tuition revenue.
