Respectful Workplace Policy Builder for Higher Ed
Use this resource to inform, write, and plan to implement your respectful workplace policy for your college or university employees.
In an era of high turnover and increased efforts to diversify hiring, higher ed institutions risk losing their newly hired employees. Institutions also face threats to accreditation if they fail to create a physically and psychologically safe workplace to support faculty and staff from historically marginalized groups. EAB recommends a clearly defined respectful workplace policy, sometimes called a civility or dignity and respect policy, to address subtle acts of exclusion and promote positive workplace interactions.
Subtle acts of exclusion are commonplace verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative prejudicial slights and insults toward any group.
